I think that if at Castle Rock they had seen this "Beast," it would dramatically changed the outcome of the story. If they had seen the beast, I believe they would have used it as a vessel. As in they will make everyone else do as they say or the beast will come around. Basically, use fear as a resource, to bend people to their will.

That had fallen out of a plane and was so contorted by the wind and the parachutes strings, that he was dead before he hit the ground. Ralph might have seen that he finally had some acking to his ideas of no beasts and fire importance. Jack would feel safer and would have seen that Ralph was being rational and that he must be listened to.
Well, if Ralph had found the beast at Castle Rock, he would have probably been able to tell that it was a man and he would be able to get everyone to focus on important things. (like keeping the fire going). If Jack found the beast at Castle Rock, he might not have been able to tell that it was just a man, as he is not as perceptive as Ralph. He would have probably gotten scared and spread rumor that there really was a beast, as this is what he believed he saw. This would throw the camp into fear and they still wouldn't be able to do anything around the island because everyone would be too scared to do much of anything.
