In chapter eight, the boys of Jack's choir follow his lead and disband from the tribe. Jack takes most of the biguns with him and none of the littluns, making hunting easier. Jack's followers go hunting and kill a large mother pig and leave it's head as a trophy for the beast. Simon also has an odd interaction with this pig head in which it tells him many things. Simon is therefore insane and passes out.
Jack calls a meeting and decides to secede from the tribe. Those who remained with the original tribe decided to make a smaller fire down by the beach. Jack and his new tribe went hunting, and they killed a sow. Then they used the spear, sharpened at both ends, to leave out the sow's head for the beast as a tribute. Then, in order to cook it, they steal the fire.Simon also had a strange experience while looking at the sow's head from his hiding spot and he saw the lord of the flies when the flies were eating the organs that got left behind.
